MULTIAXIAL HYBRID FABRICS OF SAERTEX® IN X-LITE MOTORCYCLE HELMETS OF NOLAN
The Italian company NOLANGROUP is the largest manufacturer of helmets in Europe. NOLANGROUP produces helmets in polycarbonate, under the brand names Nolan and Grex, as well as helmets in composite fibers, under the X-lite brand. X-lite motorcycle helmets fulfil highest demands for safety and quality. The production of the outer shell for X-lite helmets is based on the use of multiaxial hybrid fabrics (carbon-glass and aramid-glass from SAERTEX).
THE IDEA
The objective was to produce advanced helmets in terms of lightweight, rigidity, comfort and design, ensuring the safety of our customers and compliance with the homologation standards. Therefore, the development of X-lite motorcycle helmets requires the use of special fabrics, as well as extreme manual care in the finishing stages for the shell. NOLAN found in SAERTEX solutions all the points for this performance range and also the benefits of innovations with the hybrid solutions style (tailor made).
REINFORCING THIS IDEA
X-lite brand is the brand for competition and performance, due to the specificity of composites. The production of the outer shell for X-lite helmets is based on the use of multiaxial hybrid fabrics (carbon-glass and aramid-glass from SAERTEX). Carbon fibers for lightweight and rigidity, mixed with the glass fibers for mechanical performance. Also, aramid fibers for some models to fight against specific shock and risk of perforation. Still NOLANGROUP and SAERTEX always discuss about solutions, options and evolution of the composite market, in order to be innovative with the better top quality possible and to propose every day evolution and optimization: keys of the success in racing and leisure!
TECHNICAL BENEFITS
- Glass and carbon for lightweight and stiffness
- For some models aramid for maximal break resistance
- Reduced weight for the same size and mechanical performance
- Exclusive look – thanks to the “visible” fibers
THE SUCCESS STORY
The racing department represents the “racing” history and heart of the company, recounting its sporting successes through its prestigious collection of legendary helmets. In this division, specialized technicians prepare the models destined for a team which is currently made up of approximately 80 riders competing in the MotoGP and Superbike Championships, as well as other minor championships. Amongst these riders there were: Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Carlos Checa and now Marco Melandri, Danilo Petrucci, Alex Rins, Chaz Davis. Thanks to their wins, the company currently boasts 67 World Titles. A majority of these helmets are made of multiaxial hybrid fabrics of SAERTEX.
