Raw material overview
Our fiber expertise
Fiber is the foundation of every SAERTEX NCF. For over 40 years, we have been developing multiaxial fabrics that are precisely tailored to the requirements of our customers and the industries they serve.
In addition to proven raw materials such as glass, carbon, aramid and flax, we also work with advanced fibers like basalt and Dyneema. We process these fibers individually or in hybrid combinations, depending on the mechanical requirements and desired processing characteristics.
This results in a portfolio of multiaxial and unidirectional fabrics for lightweight construction. Explore our Product portfolio to discover the configurations and fiber combinations available for your application.
The most important raw materials
Glass
Glass fibers are the proven standard in lightweight construction. They offer a good strength-to-weight ratio and are resistant to chemicals. Depending on the type (e.g., E, ECR, H, or S glass), they differ in terms of strength, temperature resistance, and corrosion behavior. Glass fibers are economical and easy to process, making them ideal for a wide range of applications.
Carbon
Carbon fibers combine high stiffness and strength with extremely low weight. Depending on the modulus class (HT, IM, HM) and fiber structure (e.g. 12K to 50K heavy tow), the mechanical properties can be precisely adapted. Carbon is the material of choice when maximum performance with minimum weight is required.
Flax
Flax is a natural, renewable raw material with good mechanical properties. The fiber dampens vibrations and offers an aesthetic, natural look for components. In combination with glass or carbon, hybrid structures are often created that combine performance and sustainability.
Aramid
Aramid fibers are particularly tough and cut-resistant. They retain their strength even at high temperatures and withstand impact, abrasion and fatigue. Their high energy absorption makes them ideal for components that need to be lightweight and resistant at the same time.
Quality & responsibility in fiber procurement
SAERTEX has been working with leading fiber manufacturers worldwide for many years. Long-term supplier partnerships, certified quality assurance, and internal testing processes guarantee consistently high material quality and ensure that every fiber meets the defined requirements. In addition to using proven raw materials, we are continuously working to further increase the proportion of renewable and recycled fibers. Our goal is to align performance and resource conservation even more closely in the future.
