SAERTEX opens plant in Mexico.

New site in Mexico: SAERTEX® strengthens production for the wind power industry

Saerbeck, February 15, 2022 - the world's leading manufacturer of textile reinforcement materials opens its 17th site worldwide. The new production plant in Ciudad Juárez in northern Mexico is now producing multiaxial glass fiber fabrics for lightweight construction. The site benefits from its proximity to key customers in rotor blade construction in the wind power industry.

SAERTEX is one of the world's largest manufacturers of lightweight textile materials made from glass and carbon fibers, which are used to produce fiber composite components. With the new production plant in Mexico, the company is expanding its global network to 17 locations. The new 15,000 m2 site in Ciudad Juárez is now producing multiaxial glass fiber fabrics. A completely new production hall with approx. 9,000 m2 of production space and state-of-the-art, sustainable infrastructure has been built for this purpose in recent months. A total of 54 new jobs will be created at the newly founded SAERTEX Mexico S.A. de C.V.

"Our strategic goal is to provide our customers with a reliable supply chain and regional, sustainable sourcing through the global SAERTEX production network," explains Christoph Geyer, CEO of the SAERTEX Group. "The new site in Ciudad Juárez is an important further milestone for sustainable cooperation with our customers in the composites industry, including the wind industry, which is strongly represented in Mexico with its blade plants. At the same time, this strategic relocation of production capacity from the USA to Mexico will strengthen our US plant in Huntersville (NC), which will be able to focus its expertise on our emerging business in the field of industrial applications."

The installation of the machines and systems at the SAERTEX plant in Mexico has been completed, the processes have been successfully mapped in the SAP ERP system, and they have been networked with the other locations in the global production network. The training of the SAERTEX Mexico workforce has also been largely completed in recent weeks. „Our machines are up and running, the processes are established, and the qualification process at our customers“ sites is well advanced,„ says Dietmar Möcke, CTO at SAERTEX. “This is the result of excellent cooperation with the customer and our international project team. It was only with the support of the specialists from SAERTEX USA and SAERTEX in Saerbeck that we were able to implement the project so successfully – especially in view of the difficult conditions caused by the pandemic."

In addition to the start of series production of multiaxial fabrics, an expansion of the plant in Mexico is already in preparation. The Ciudad Juárez site will then also manufacture additional product lines in order to be able to offer customers in the wind power sector a wide range of different material technologies for rotor blade construction.
