New SAERcore® LEO series compliant with HL3 EN4545-2 standard

For 25 years BARATA has been a world-known supplier for the railway industry (rolling stock).
The project intended to realize a cabin access door via RTM process for STADLER’s new SMILE high speed train.

THE IDEA

  • Manufacturing of an access door using RTM processing with serial production molds
  • Achieving homogeneous impregnation of the composite with fire retardant resins with fillers using SAERcore LEO
  • Complying with fire protection standard EN 45545-2 requirement R1 with painting

REINFORCING THIS IDEA

  • Long Filament mats were used previously and were difficult to shape
  • SAERcore LEO: easy cutting and application in 3D molds of various shapes, works with most fire retardant resins
  • Achieving HL2 and HL3 fire protection according to EN 45545-2 (R1 and R7)

THE SUCCESS STORY

  • With SAERcore LEO, BARAT’s access doors comply with EN 45545-2.
  • The material could be easily processed in RTM in combination with most fire retardant resins.
  • Thin parts (2.5 – 4 mm) could be easily shaped with SAERcore LEO using a closed mold process.
