As a medium-sized enterprise operating in a scenic area, SAERTEX manufactures products that are also utilized in environmental protection. SAERTEX feels particularly indebted to the environment, constantly strives for improvements in its own environmental performance, and takes measures to reduce environmental impact that go above and beyond legal and government specifications.

A building block of these efforts is the participation in the ÖKOPROFIT Project – a cooperative project between the district of Steinfurt and the businesses in the region. The name says it all: ÖKOPROFIT helps reduce adverse effects on the environment while lowering costs for businesses. Among many things realized under the ÖKOPROFIT rubric, SAERTEX is developing and implementing an environmental management system to assess and continually improve upon its achievements in environmental protection. The system’s main purpose is to promote organization and responsibility, to develop new ideas in environmental protection, and to put these ideas into practice.

By participating in the ÖKOPROFIT project, SAERTEX promises to deliver efficient and sustainable management of resources (including water and energy), to reduce the amount of waste produced, and to reap the resulting financial benefits.

Over the project’s development, some measures have already been initiated and put into place, including:

• Use of water aerators to reduce water use in sanitation facilities.
• Sensitivization of all employees regarding resource management.
• Optimization of lighting in warehouse and manufacturing facilities.
• A more clearly arranged and organized waste separation process, which will guarantee efficient recycling.
