Credit where credit is due: our client Acciona Infaestructuras of Spain will receive a JEC Innovation Award for 2011 at the JEC Composites Show in Paris (March 29-31, 2011). Acciona's footbridge, constructed entirely out of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, won over the jury in the "Civil Engineering" category. The 40 meter long footbridge consists of a single component and was made with SAERTEX carbon fabrics. The use of the VAP membrane in particular made a major contribution to the quality of the bridge: the VAP procedure guarantees low porosity along the entire length of the structure, despite its large dimensions. The weight has been reduced by 50 percent compared to a bridge constructed of steel. This weight advantage has other positive effects: production time is cut in half, transportation costs are lower, installation is simpler – even in complicated locations, the bridges are more resistant to corrosion than conventional bridges, and they are less expensive to maintain. All in all, it is a more than successful project, and has also set a precedent: two other composite bridges are to be installed in Spain in this year alone. Other countries in Africa have already ordered ten bridges from Acciona Infaestructuras.

As a medium-sized company situated in an attractive landscape SAERTEX manufactures products which are used within the environment protection as well; we feel especially obliged.
