Green IT refers to efforts to make the use of information technology (IT) environmentally and resource friendly throughout the entire lifecycle - that is, everything from the design, the systems, the production of the components and their use, to the disposal or recycling of the equipment. This applies primarily to the operation of printers and computer systems, but also to mobile telephones. The goal is the ecological optimization of all processes.

The minimally increased costs at the time of purchasing are offset by electricity savings of up to 40%. Green IT is recyclable, since the units contain no mercury, for example, and therefore are not hazardous waste.
